nicolas bernier The mix of noise, acousmatic, metal, techno, orient and occident is something we've rarely heard before. Fav: Tehroon with its silence and surprising contrasts, its mainly acoustic sounds which arrangement is clearly influenced by highly synthetic aesthetic.

Hakeem Lapointe Never have I heard the stereo image being used so evocatively in an album’s narrative. Notice how samples, like in bubblegum for example, is deliberately left narrowly in the front, speaking to themes of presence and reminiscence before being reintegrated in tumultuous breaks and gestures into the flesh of the track? Beautiful <3 GOLPESAR tears my heart, yet again Favorite track: Speak In Semaphore.

about

Unfurling like a recollection of sonic memories, the Flesh of the World finds GOLPESAR poetically weaving sounds of traditional and contemporary Iran within synthesized sonic imaginaries, in a queer act of becoming. The resulting world is one of opposing sonic affects, relentlessly engaged in a dialectical push and pull. Simultaneously real and fictional, loving and angered, abrasive and tender, the sonic narratives of the Flesh embody the angst of living within the current geopolitical climate. Undoubtedly, the work’s greatest debt is owed to Parisa, Ramesh, Googoosh, Nargues, Lida, Aida, and all the other powerful Iranian women of the past and present whose voices resonate within and beyond its sonic landscapes, holding the power to erase borders and elevate life.

GOLPESAR is the sonic proxy of Rouzbeh Shadpey, a transdisciplinary artist currently based in Montreal.
